Spidermen No. 135 Water Tank

Spider-Man No. 135: "Tidal Terror"

Plot Synopsis: In the heart of New York City, a series of mysterious accidents have been occurring at the city's water treatment plants. Water reservoirs have been tampered with, and large-scale flooding is threatening to overwhelm lower Manhattan. As Spider-Man swings through the city, he overhears a suspicious conversation and traces it back to a secret lair where the villain Hydro-Man has resurfaced.

Hydro-Man (Morris Bench), once a simple man with the ability to transform into water, has refined his powers, gaining the ability to control vast bodies of water at will. His ultimate plan: to flood New York City and take control of the water supply, causing chaos and devastation to force the government to negotiate with him.

Key Moments:

  • The Water Tank Showdown: As Spider-Man investigates a water tank facility, he’s ambushed by Hydro-Man. A violent battle ensues in one of the city's largest water reservoirs, with water gushing from the tanks, flooding the facility. Spider-Man uses his webbing to try and contain the flow of water, while avoiding Hydro-Man's attacks.
  • Hydro-Man's Power: Hydro-Man reveals that he’s able to manipulate entire water tanks, using their pressure to create devastating water blasts. Spider-Man struggles to keep up, as the water levels rise quickly, forcing him to fight both Hydro-Man and the rising tide.
  • Escape Plan: Spider-Man uses his quick thinking to manipulate the water tanks and redirects the flow to undermine Hydro-Man's control. Using his webs to short-circuit the facility's systems, he disables Hydro-Man’s access to the control panel, causing a counter-flow that limits the damage.

Climax:

In the final battle, Hydro-Man tries to flood the city’s main reservoir, releasing an enormous tidal wave aimed at downtown Manhattan. Spider-Man, nearly drowned in the process, uses his strength to redirect Hydro-Man’s own water attack back at him, trapping him in a newly sealed water tank.

Ending: Spider-Man successfully prevents the catastrophe and prevents Hydro-Man from escaping. The water levels return to normal, but not before Spider-Man gets a bit too wet and has to spend a few hours drying out. Meanwhile, Hydro-Man is once again taken into custody, and the city breathes a sigh of relief—at least until the next supervillain comes along.
